Understanding Ultramarine Violet Pigment Chemistry
Ultramarine Violet Pigment (Pigment Violet 15, CI 77007) is produced by the controlled oxidation of Ultramarine Blue under carefully managed atmospheric conditions. The oxidation process converts some of the polysulfide chromophores responsible for the blue color into monosulfide species, shifting the absorption wavelength and producing the characteristic reddish-violet hue of Ultramarine Violet Pigment.
The resulting pigment retains all the stability advantages of its blue precursor: heat resistance up to 300°C, excellent alkali resistance, and non-toxicity with zero heavy metal content. Ultramarine Violet Pigment is approved by FDA under 21 CFR regulations and listed in EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex IV, making it one of a very select group of inorganic pigments permitted in eye area cosmetics including mascara, eyeliner, and eye shadow.
SKU Pigments manufactures Ultramarine Violet Pigment in three shade variants: cool violet (more bluish), medium violet (neutral), and warm violet-pink (reddish). Each shade is available in standard and fine particle grades.
